Why Bordeaux?
In the words of Bordeaux students Stéphanie Derouet and Stéphane Picard
Why study at Bordeaux 3?
Stéphane: Bordeaux is really well located. The university has a lot of classes to offer in the field of liberal arts.
What did you experience there that you might not experience elsewhere?
Stéphane: By attending Bordeaux 3, students have the unique opportunity of living in one of the greatest cultural centers of France and in a city that has earned a place on the World Heritage List of the UNESCO. Located in the Aquitaine region, Bordeaux is home to one of the country's (and the world's) most prolific wine-producing centers. In addition, in 2004, a state-of-the-art tramway was inaugurated, linking points north and south and across the Garonne river, east and west. The city is also very walkable, with points of interest being the Public Garden (complete with swans), the quais (streets that border the river, complete with a battleship, the Colbert), and rue St. Catherine, a long, central street that is Bordeaux's mecca for shopping and strolling on nice days.
Day trips from Bordeaux's St. Jean train station include the prehistoric caves at Sarlat/Lascaux and the coastal, beachside town of Archachon on the Atlantic (about a 45-minute train ride away). You can even surf at nearby Lacanau or Cap-Ferret, not too far from Archachon.
Overall, Bordeaux is a charming, mid-sized French city with plenty of unexpected details -- in architecture, museums, cultural institutions, and just in the chaleureux (warm-heared, friendly) nature of its residents.
Why should other students study abroad?
Stéphane: Students who study abroad discover a new culture, meet people, take on a challenge, and discover themselves!
Why should other students choose Bordeaux 3 and study in France?
Stéphanie: Bordeaux is located in southwestern France, in a region full of history, full of lanscapes, and full of French gastronomie. The university of Bordeaux 3 is well-connected with the downtown of Bordeaux. It's really easy to get to the city center and admire the history of it (XVIII century). Bordeaux is a small city and for SMCM students it can be easier to integrate into this kind of city. Cinema, museums, theaters...Bordeaux has everything.
If you want to go to Paris, it's only three hours by train, and Bordeaux is close to Spain too. France is close to a lot of European countries, so it's really easy for you to get from one point to another. Thanks to the French transportation, you would have the opportunity to travel a lot and discover France and Europe.
