Student Life
Living and Eating on Campus
St. Mary's students at Bordeax 3 are entitled to benefit, as is any French student, from state-subsidized housing on campus. Student housing on campus is clustered into six "Villages." The closes villages to Bordeaux 3 are Villages 3 and 5. Rooms with a sink are modest in size and appearance. You'll find a bed, a desk, two chairs, two lights, a cabinet, a closet and only two outlets.
Co-ed toilettes, showers, kitchenettes, televisions, and washing machines are located in shared spaces.
For students who prefer to live in the center of Bordeaux, the umbrella student services organization C.R.O.U.S. offers a housing serve that helps students find off-campus housing.
C.R.O.U.S. also manages the restaurants universitaries, on-campus and in the city. Meals are tasty and affordable.
Students also are eligible to receive discounted bus/tram fares which makes transportation easily accessible.

Staying Fit
Bordeaux 3 has an Olympic-size swimming pool, a weight room, spaces for dance and martial arts, tennis and squash courts, field and track terrain, rugby and soccer fields, and a golf course. There are also organized groups that provide instruction for skiing, rock-climbing, kayaking, surfing, and sailing.
Student Activities
Excursions and social events are organized for international students by the Department of French as a Foreign Language, by an organization of French student volunteers who have themselves studied abroad, called Europa 3, and by the Aquitaine branch of the national University of Free Time (L'Université du Temps Libre d'Aquitaine—UTLA) for retired citizens, roughly equivalent to our alumni colleges.
Europa 3 holds coffee and cookie open house tree times a week for chatting and international encounters, organizes parties, trips to the movies or to concerts, as well as to outings to places like the Lascaux Caves, the medival wine-growing village of St. Emilion, or to Montaigne's or Montesquieu's castles.
The UTLA invites foreign students to their homes and introduces them to their families, rents bicycles or canoes for trips with students to nature preserves, or takes them to regions where the best Cognac or foie gras is made or truffles found. They work in small groups of 4 to 10 international students, whom they ask to be of different nationalities.
