Student Life
Living in Buenos Aires
Students live with families chosen from a network of families with which Culturas del Sur has worked, or that come recommended from other trusted university programs for foreign students. Students live in upper-middle-class neighborhoods, typically in apartments, near metro and city bus transportation. Students usually must take public transportation to their class locations.
Breakfast and dinner are provided with the family, with the assumption that the student will be out of the house during lunchtime. (In Buenos Aires, the midday pause for lunch, the siesta, is not observed as it is in the provinces.)
Staying Fit
Culturas del Sur does not have its own fitness facilities, but students find they do a lot of walking and can squeeze in runs around the neighborhood to keep fit.
Student Activities
Culturas del Sur provides a handbook with ideas about things to see and do in Buenos Aires, as well as these resources for staying connected with current happenings. Every Friday the Newspapers Clarín and La Nación bring a very complete guide with the activities that will be carried out during the week. The first one is called "Suplemento Sí", the second one is "Suplemento Vía Libre" (very complete and recommendable). Students can also find information about local events online at www.clarin.com and www.lanacion.com.ar. A journal to keep up with cultural events is the magazine called Ñ which is edited by Clarín. It appears on Saturdays and can be purchased independently.
Excursions
Students will also participate in cultural excursions and trips organized as part of the program. In addition to scheduled excursions planned within the city of Buenos Aires, students will also travel for one to two weeks to Salta, Mendoza, Córdoba or a similar city.
Computing in Buenos Aires
Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops and can use them at the Culturas del Sur. Computer centers are also easy to find in phone centers around Buenos Aires.
