Student Life
Living and Eating on Campus
There are six student hostels on campus providing residential places to some 1,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students. All rooms are air-conditioned and accommodate two students. For each occupant, the provision includes one bed, closet, desk and shelf, one chair, and one LAN point connected to the University's network system free of charge. The University will provide you with the basic bedding items, such as linens, pillows, and blankets. There are restrooms and showers shared by all the floor occupants. There is no telephone in the bedroom, but you can use the telephone at the common area of the hostel.
The hostel also offers a common lounge, a pantry on each floor, a game room, a multi-purpose room, a committee room, a television room, and a laundry area. Each hostel is supervised by a warden, a senior tutor and four tutors.
The University does not operate any meal plan, mandatory or optional. Students dine where they want, on or off campus. There is one canteen and a full-service Chinese restaurant on campus. Cost per meal in the canteen ranges from HK$15 up.
Hong Kong people are food lovers. There are many good restaurants in Tuen Mun Town Centre where you can sample dim sum and other local favorites like fish ball noodles, wonton, and congee. As for Western food, the Canteen provides limited choices, but the Town Centre does have restaurants serving western food. The taste may differ from what you are normally accustomed to, but it's a part of your adventure.
Staying Fit
Lingnan University has an Indoor Sports Complex that houses a wide range of sports facilities: a gymnasium capable of holding badminton, basketball, volleyball and handball activities; squash courts; table-tennis room; a multipurpose room; and a physical fitness room. Users are required to pay an hourly fee for use of the facility.
Student Organizations and Activities
You'll find more than 70 student clubs, societies, and organizations at Lingnan to keep you busy and engaged in the campus community. A variety of sports, cultural, social, recreational and academic activities are offered and membership of these organizations/groups is open to all students. Hostel activities are mainly organized by the Student Hostel Associations with the assistance from the Warden's Offices and Student Services Centre. The Student Services Centre is also active in organizing a wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes for students in order to enrich their educational experience.
