First Steps

As your first step to study at St. Mary's, exchange students from partner institutions need to complete SMCM's Application for Admission to International Exchange Programs.

Once completed, please turn in your application to your home campus international programs exchange coordinator.  They will need to sign your application form and forward approved candidates to St. Mary's for consideration.

Additionally, you will need to complete and submit the following forms/materials via email to ie@smcm.edu or via mail:

  1. New Student Housing Contract and New Student Matching Form: http://www.smcm.edu/residencelife/forms.html
  2. Health History Form
    Read Health Services letter
  3. Copy of their Immunization Record (in English)
  4. Results of a TB (Tuberculosis) Test - adminstered by a doctor or hospital
  5. Meningococcal Vaccine Requirement
  6. Drug-Free Campus Policy Acknowledgement
    Read Campus Policy Statement
  7. Proof of Financial Support (in English)
    This can be a bank statement or a letter for your institution if your institution is supporting your time abroad.
Each of these forms/materials is required for students who live on campus.  Incoming exchange students will also need to apply for a student J-1 or F-1 visa (depending on your type of program).  Upon acceptance, SMCM's IE Office will enter each student into the U.S.'s SEVIS system in order to issue each student a SEVIS I-20. 

SMCM's Office of International Education will send acceptance letters to those exchange students accepted for study at St. Mary's only after receive all of the required forms.

Application due dates are:
October 15 for spring semester exchange
March 1 for academic year or fall semester exchange
