Then, you've come to the right place!
Here is a quick guide to the resources, events, and info available to SMCM students.
We offer residence halls, apartments, suites, and townhouses to students living on campus. (For more info on that, click here.) Apartments, suites, and townhouses may have combinations of students of any genders.
One residence hall is reserved for Open Housing. In this hall, you may request to live with a roomate of any gender, and the RA has special training on LGBTQ and trans*/trans gender issues. Click here to find out more!
STARS (St. Mary's Triangle and Rainbow Society) is the main LGBTQ club on campus. They host regular meetings, plan events, and work with LGBTQ Student Services on campus-wide projects like Gaypril and National Coming Out Day.
FUSE (Feminists United for Sexual Equality) is a group that hosts regular meetings and events, and discusses feminist and women's issues and how they intersect with gender and sexual identity.
WGSX (Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies) Department has a number of classes cross-listed with WGSX every semester, and hosts events like the Colloquium and the Transcending Boundaries Conference.Their faculty come from a broad range of subjects and backgrounds, and are well-versed in a wide array of gender and sexuality - related topics.
We have annual events, such as National Coming Out Day, National Transgender Day of Remembrance , Gaypril, and Lavender Graduation. Throughout the year, we also have film screenings, visiting speakers, and more. Check out our facebook page to see what's going on now!
Although SMCM is still working on making bathrooms more accessible to people of all genders, we have five gender neutral restrooms spread across campus. Click here to find them!
SMCM is rated 3.5/5 stars by Campus Pride Index, with a 5/5 rating for sexual orientation, and a 3.5/5 for gender identity/expression. Here's our rating page. That will give you a breakdown of exactly what we offer and what scores we have in more specific areas.
