Lost Item Policy
SMCM Library items are considered lost when they are a certain number of days overdue (varies depending on the item). For each lost item, the patron is charged a replacement fee (also varies depending on the item) and a $5 processing fee. There are three options:
- Return the item. This will result in the replacement fee being waived; the $5 processing fee will remain
- Replace the item. This must be done in consultation with the collection development librarian for the subject area of the lost item to ensure a suitable replacement is found. If this option is chosen the replacement fee will be waived when the library is in receipt of the replacement item and the $5 processing fee will remain.
- Pay the replacement and processing fees by cash or check at the library front desk, or at the business office after 1 month has passed.
After one year from the date the item is considered lost, the item may no longer be returned or replaced & the fines will stay on the patron's account.
