What should I major in?
We encourage future elementary (EDEL) and elementary with early childhood certification (EDEL with EDEC) seekers to pursue a major in any field for which they have a passion; however, many of our elementary certifiers major in Psychology, as there is an overlap in coursework. For secondary and K-12 teachers you should major in what you want to teach (for example, future English teachers would major in English).
English, Theater, Math, Sciences, History, PoliSci, Economics Majors
Art, Foreign Language, and Music Majors
We do offer a minor in Educational Studies; completing the minor plus additional content course work as appropriate for the teaching field in which the candidate wishes to certify can lead to admission to the MAT.
A note for transfer students: Because of our foreign language requirement and some of the other prerequisite courses, completing an AA degree, rather than an AAT, at a community college may be a more efficient transfer path, though we welcome AAT completers.
