Computer Science Cooperative Education Program

 

Upon admission the student is enrolled in the CS major and informed of competition for scholarship beginning in the second year.

Companies solicited in Jan/Feb re: their need for co-op students and our request for a $2.5K scholarship contribution to the SMCM Foundation.

Faculty-selected students are matched to a company in March.

Student receives scholarship the academic year following co-op experience.

Summer experience evaluation in the Fall by company, student, and co-op head.

 

• The faculty member heading the co-op program in computer science (Matthew Burke) will determine annually which sophomores and juniors majoring in math/computer science will be eligible for co-op employment the following summer.

 

• Outstanding freshmen will be permitted into the program by department faculty.

 

• Letters to co-op sponsor companies will be handled by the Development Department.  The annual solicitation will be in the amount of $2500, guaranteeing at least one student (two if available).

 

• Matching responding company sponsors with students will be by head of the co-op program.

 

• Queen Anne Hall will be used to house co-op students at a minimum of $100 for the summer employment period.

 

• Consideration to be made of an annual Convocation award consisting of scholarship support and a trophy/plaque to the outstanding freshman computer science major – to be financed with the annual company contributions.
