Marriages and Unions

Jennifer Chapin Harris ’99 and Alexi Elaine Smith were married March 4, 2006, at the Adelphi Friends (Quaker) Meeting in Sandy Spring, Maryland. The Chapin-Smiths met at Northwestern University where Jennifer earned a master’s of science degree in journalism in 2001. Jennifer now co-runs the Youth Program at the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living. She also founded and coordinates the Washtenaw Youth Mentoring Coalition, and edits the Center’s magazine, Access. Jennifer serves on the board of the Washtenaw Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network and is vice chair of the Michigan Democratic Party’s LGBT and Allies Caucus. Alexi is a Ph.D. candidate in archaeology at the University of Michigan, working on late pre-Columbian polities in the Andes. The couple lives in Ann Arbor with their two adopted dogs.

Christopher Hilton ’99 and Virginia Wright were married May 7, 2008, before a judge at the Port Townsend, Washington, courthouse. Christopher changed his last name to Wright and both he and Virginia took his former last name as their middle names. Virginia is IT manager for Encore Media Group, and Christopher works in the Housing Choice Voucher program for Seattle Housing Authority. The couple lives in Burien, Washington, overlooking Puget Sound, with two cats and many colorful fish.

Kristin McGee Montgomery ’99 and Michael Brendan Hughes ’98 were married April 25, 2009, at Liberty Mountain Resort in Fairfield, Pennsylvania. The wedding party included Michelle Thompson Stulberger ’01, Robert Reif ’98, Matthew Bortmes ’98, and Randall Reif ’06. Also in attendance were mother of the groom, Francine Galiano Hughes ’66, sister of the groom, Carrie Hughes ’01, Eileen Smith O’Connell ’66, Davida Ofori Bortmes ’01, and Diana Dycus Martinez (1996-99). Kristin is a budget analyst for the Food and Drug Administration in Rockville; Michael is an attorney for the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. The couple lives in Odenton, Maryland.

Candice Dorsey ’00 and Adam DeCruz were married February 28, 2009, at Celebrations at the Bay in Pasadena, Maryland. Viet Minh Nguyen ’03 officiated at the ceremony. Friends in attendance included Jessica Schickling ’01, Elizabeth Gutting ’99, Krissy Garven Hudgins ’99, Kim DeBoy ’99, Bonnie Coy Mitchell ’99, Drew Schneider ’00, Jen Boisseau Capece ’97, Steve Capece ’97 and Jessica Etzler Bahorick ’00. The couple honeymooned in St. Lucia where they had a second private beach ceremony followed by a reception in Rockport, Massachusetts, with Adam’s family. Candice received her Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Policy in November 2008 from a joint program by George Mason University and the Smithsonian’s Conservation and Research Center. She is the director of animal conservation at the Association for Zoos and Aquariums in Silver Spring; Adam is a marketing manager in Rockville. The couple lives in Germantown, Maryland.

Bridgette Hagerty ’00 and Christopher Warner were married October 18, 2008, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Philadelphia. Their reception was held at Richmond Hall. Members of the wedding party included Rebecca Hassinger Bossle ’00 and Duncan Bossle ’99. Other alums in attendance were Alison Trendler Moore ’00, Ryan Moore ’00, Jonathan Saxon ’00, Michael Pennington ’00, Jen Hare ’00, Alexis Gibson ’00, Debbie Brown ’00, Neal Peckens ’02, and Laura Pyzik ’01. Bridgette is a postdoctoral researcher in the biology department at the University of Nevada.

Mark Hershfield ’00 and Sara Cheson were married May 24, 2009, in the Stronghold Mansion on Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, Maryland. The wedding qualified as a “mini-reunion” with David Ryden ’00, Jonathan Saxon ’00, Josh Wenger ’03, Molly Cusick ’03, Samantha Sissman ’03, Tenley mini-reunionMartin ’03, Erin Taylor ’03, Christina Valentine ’99, Kofi Kankam ’00, Greg Smith ’02, Amy Anderson ’04, Jeremy Siegel ’03, Kevin Chapman ’02, Ron Santo ’00, Julie Bederka Hamilton ’02, Brian Hamilton ’02, Stephanie Bonifant ’02, Peter Coates ’01, Natasha Robinson ’01 and Fran Conticchio (1997-98). Mark and Sara honeymooned on the “nature island of the Caribbean,” Dominica, and live in Point of Rocks, Maryland.

Carrie Hughes ’01 and Jonathan Peery were married July 11, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis. Members of the wedding party included bridesmaids Katherine Ann Dutton ’01, Karen Leslie Nichols, ’02, Lorien Wade Tarasiuk, ’02, and Sara Meredith Morell ’01; and Carrie’s brother, Michael Hughes ’98, was an usher. Alums in attendance included the bride’s mother, Francine Galiano Hughes ’66 and her best friend, Eileen Smith O’Connell ’66; sister-in-law, Kristin Montgomery Hughes ’99, Lauren Franke ’02, Danielle Pilon ’01, Carolina Calonje ’01, Jessica Schickling Pamer ’01, Richard Fredricks ’01, and Keith Sinnot ’00. The reception was held at the Governor Calvert House in Annapolis. The couple honeymooned in Majorca and Barcelona in Spain. Carrie is a wellness program manager for Northrop Grumman. The couple lives in Annapolis.

Michelle Thompson ’01 and Cas Stulberger were married March 24, 2007, at Historic Savage Mill in Savage, Maryland. Kristin Montgomery Hughes ’99 was maid of honor. In attendance were Michael Hughes ’98, Laura Finizio Hobson ’01, and Michael Sigelman ’99. Michelle and Cas honeymooned on a cruise to the Caribbean.

Melanie Evans ’02 and Joe Curro were married May 23, 2009, in Central Park, New York City. Jessica Speedling Emerson ’02 was the matron of honor. Sara Whitt ’01 and Abigail Estes ’03 were in attendance. The reception was held at the Turkuaz Restaurant on Broadway. Melanie and Joe honeymooned in the Bahamas. The couple lives and works in New York City.

Timothy Iannone ’02 and Carolina Young were married January 2, 2009, in Cali, Colombia. The couple met during a family medicine residency program, and after graduation in 2010 they plan to practice in Texas. A May 2009 reception in New York City was attended by Brian Keating ’03, Andrew Merritt ’02, Dave Scrivner ’04, Mali Fenton ’04, Julie Roberts Harrison ’04, Michael Harrison ’04, Ben Yzguirre ’04 and Matt Burge ’04.

Jennifer Marbourg ’02 and Robert Miller ’02 were married June 12, 2009, in Great Mills, Maryland. Alumni ranging from the class of 2000 through Jenn’s sister and maid of honor, Jessica Marbourg ’13, were in attendance. Jen and Rob live in southern Maryland and work at Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

Nathan Paul Crowe ’03 and Stephanie Anna Horowitz were married September 21, 2008, at the Elkridge Furnace Inn in Elkridge,Maryland. Amy Anderson ’04, Kevin Beanland ’02, Kevin Chapman ’02, Michael Kovacs ’04, Emily Lawrence ’03, Chrissy Warren Mastandrea ’04, Philip Mastandrea ’04, Diane Milleville ’00, Shawn Milleville ’03, Angie Mogensen ’98, Scott Patterson ’00, Drew Schneider ’00, Jeremy Siegel ’03, Greg Smith ’02, Kevin Smith ’03, Craig Stevenson ’03, Joanna Berger Tanner ’02, Michael Tanner ’03, Joshua Wenger ’03, and Wes Willoughby ’01 were guests. Nathan earned a Crowe weddingmaster’s degree in history from North Carolina State University in 2006 and is currently pursuing his Ph.D in history of science and technology from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Stephanie is an archivist at the Charles Babbage Institute at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. The couple honeymooned in Acadia National Park in Maine and live in Minneapolis.

Adam Jonathan Weaver ’03 and Adrienne Wineholt ’04 were married October 25, 2008, at Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Mary’s City. The reception was held at the historic Brome Howard Inn. Adam and Adrienne were joined at the wedding by family and friends Kathryn Bogel ’05, Greg Maly ’05, Chantal Buchser ’05, Rachel (Larsen) ’04, Tom Weaver ’04, Maggie Low ’05, Ben Church ’04, and Joanna Masterson ’05. The couple honeymooned in Oregon. Adam and Adrienne now live in Chevy Chase and work as attorneys in the Washington, D.C. area.

Melissa Arndt ’04 and Gerard McEvoy were married April 3, 2009, in Ratheniska in the Midlands region of Ireland. The reception was held in the town of Abbeyleix. Kyle Bishop ’04 was maid of honor. The couple honeymooned in Ireland. Melissa is a teacher with the Anne Arundel County public school system. The couple lives in Annapolis.

Jessica Kemp ’04 and Andrew Sohn ’06 were married June 28, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Catonsville, Maryland. The wedding party included Michelle Toussaint Adams ’04, Heidi Coxon ’04, Tiffany Pelczar Kennedy ’04, Zach Adams ’05, Tracy Vallandingham ’04, Chris “Thirst” D’Antuono ’06, Travis Herrick ’05, and Ray Simmons ’06. Jessica teaches first grade at a St. Mary’s County public school; Andrew works for Naval Air Systems Command as a cost analyst. They live in Great Mills.

Sarah Massey ’04 and David Webster were married October 12, 2008, at the Morningside Inn in Frederick, Maryland. Jessica Wolf OShaughnessy ’04 was a bridesmaid; and Jacqueline Borowski ’04, Kathryn Brignole ’04 were guests. Sarah and David honeymooned at the Seaside Suites in Mexico and are living in Centreville, Virginia.

Kathryn Webb ’04 and Ryan Gruver were married June 27, 2009, at Kathryn’s parents’ home in Silver Spring, Maryland. Ellen Kowal ’05, Carol Schmoeller Hatton ’04, Stephanie Forman Dunlap ’04 and Woody Dunlap ’04 attended. The couple honeymooned in Tennessee’s Smokey Mountains. Kathryn is a graphic artist. The couple lives in Woodstock, Maryland, with their labrador, Buster.

Jessica Wolf ’04 and Domhnall OShaughnessy were married August 13, 2005, at St. Mary’s Church in Rockville. Sarah Massey Webster ’04 was a bridesmaid; Jacque Borowski ’04 and Kat Sidhom ’04 attended. The reception was held in Arlington overlooking Washington, D.C. The couple honeymooned in St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to Galway, Ireland, the week marriages and unions they got back. Jessica met Domhnall when she studied in Ireland her junior year. Jessica received a master’s of science degree in communications systems theory from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2005, and is now pursuing her doctorate in math there. They hope to move back to the Washington, D.C., area in the next year or two.

Julia Blair ’05 and Scott M. Campbell were married September 27, 2008, in a sunset beachside service at Point Lookout State Park in Scotland, Maryland. Following the ceremony, there was a family dinner at Spinnaker’s Restaurant in Ridge. The couple spent their wedding night at the Victorian Candle Bed and Breakfast in Hollywood and the rest of their honeymoon in Annapolis. The couple lives in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Christina Hailman ’05 and Stephen Gallant-Gardner ’05 were married June 6, 2009, at St. John Francis Regis Church in Hollywood, Maryland. Maggie Low ’05 and Amy Powers ’08 were bridesmaids and Ben Church ’04 did a reading during the ceremony. The reception was held at Greenwell State Park in Hollywood. Two bands, Basshound (Greg Maly ’05, Blake Mobley ’05, Nate Graham ’06 and Brad Richmond) and Byzantine Top 40 (Chris Cifone ’05, Eli Roth ’06, Audrey Hamilton ’08, Johnny Fissinger ’06 and Ryan Abbott) played at the reception. The wedding guests included Abby Thompson ’05, Dan Thompson ’01, Joanna Masterson ’05, Rachel Larsen-Weaver ’04, Tom Weaver ’04, Rob Hewitt ’03, Stephanie Novak ’04, Megan Raftery ’05, Chantal Buchser ’05, Lorien Evans ’05, Stephen Weber ’06, Kat Bogel ’05, Maggie Dannenfelser ’05, Pat Schmidt ’06, Justin Bates ’06, and Sarah Sachs ’06. The couple honeymooned at Watauga Lake, Tennessee, with their dog and at Dewey Beach without the dog. Christina works as a program coordinator for the Friends of Patterson Park, a small non profit in Baltimore. The couple lives in Baltimore.

Norah Harwood ’05 and Justin Hibbits were married October 18, 2008, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Derwood, Maryland. Meghan Quinn ’05 was in the wedding party. Guests included Matthew Sargent ’06, Noel Samoraj ’05, Lindsay Becker ’05, Carolyn Barndt ’05, Lauren Strange ’05, Gretchen White ’05, and Ann Marie Harper ’05. The couple honeymooned by taking a river cruise along the Danube River, starting in Vienna and ending in Nuremburg. Norah and Justin met in elementary school and were friends through the ninth grade when his family moved away. After not talking for years, Justin found Norah on Facebook and the rest is history. Norah is pursuing her doctorate in neuroscience from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. The couple lives in Gaithersburg.

Meghan Quinn ’05 and Matthew Sargent ’06 were married June 28, 2008, at the Brome-Howard Inn in St. Mary’s City. Members of the wedding party included bridesmaids Norah Harwood Hibbits ’05 and Noel Samoraj ’05; best man Chris Kallmyer ’07 and groomsman Tobias Bates ’06. The couple lives in Hartford, Connecticut, with their cat Clara. Meghan works as a web and communications assistant for the Partnership for Strong Communities, a homelessness and housing advocacy organization. Matthew earned a master’s degree in music composition from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and is a freelance musician and adjunct faculty at Hartford’s Capitol Community College.

Nicola (Nicky) Tilley ’05 and Mikolas Manulik were married May 05, 2009, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Annapolis. Members of the wedding party included bridesmaids Erica Tokar ’05, Erin McSpadden ’05, and Liz Allen ’06. Wedding guests included Abby Rotholz ’05, Andy Gross ’05, and Matt Stone ’04. The reception was held at the Banneker-Douglass Museum in Annapolis. Nicky and Mik met while working at an advertising agency in Baltimore. Since then, the couple has moved twice, first to Seattle and then to Miami where Nicky is an account executive for La Comunidad.

Ellen Wilkie ’05 and Michael Kowal were married June 13, 2009, at Grey Rock Mansion in Pikesville, Maryland. Kate Story ’04 was a bridesmaid; Carol Schmoeller Hatton ’04, Jen Chumley Pfeiffer ’04, Kathryn Webb Gruver ’04, Jenn Nordling ’05, and Laura Burgess Dembeck ’05 attended. The couple honeymooned for a week in St. Lucia. Ellen is an elementary technology teacher in the Howard County Public Schools. The couple lives in Ellicott City.

Courtney Kiphart ’08 and Richard Pilkerton, Jr., were married May 10, 2009 at Morningside Inn in Frederick, Maryland. Members of the wedding party included Samantha Aikins ’08, Molly Vogel ’08, Brenna Doyle ’08, and Ashley Berkant ’08. Drew McWilliams ’08 was a wedding guest. Courtney is a student in the MD/Ph.D program at West Virginia University. The couple lives in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Brittanny Wilson ’08 and Bobby Petrzala were married May 2, 2009, at Johnson Square in Savannah, Georgia. Brittany Gill ’07 was maid of honor. Bobby is deployed to Afghanistan and Brittanny has moved back to Great Mills, awaiting his return.
