BIRTHS AND ADOPTIONS

To Thomas Haas ’92 and Wendy Couchoud Haas, a son, William Robert “Liam” Haas, born April 3, 2009, and a daughter, Anja Siobhan Haas, born March 17, 2010. Liam and Anja join big brothers, Ethan, 8, and Gus, 3, and are also loved by proud aunt Amy Couchoud ’99. Tom and Wendy are both patent
attorneys. He works for Sullivan & Worcester in Washington, D.C.; she’s with the U.S. Patent Office, specializing in biotechnology. The family lives in Arlington, Virginia.

 

 

To Josh Eaton ’96 and Kristin Parrish-Eaton ’96, a son, Mitchell Valia Eaton, born May 11, 2010. Mitch joins big brother, Lucas, 5, and big sister, Jaime, 2. Josh has a master’s degree in biotechnology and biochemistry from Georgetown University and works for Columbia Biosciences in Columbia, Maryland. Kristin has a master’s degree in teaching from Johns Hopkins University and is a full-time mom. The family lives in Columbia.

 

 

 

To Barbara Smith Kappel ’96 and Brad Kappel, a daughter, Coral Ann Kappel, born May 27, 2010. She joins big brother, Gordon Bradley, 2. Barb is the executive director of advancement for St. Mary’s Academy in Annapolis; Brad is in residential waterfront real estate. The family lives in Annapolis.

 

 

 

To Stephanie Abdon Bray ’98 and Lyndon Bray, a son, Sullivan Anderson Abdon Bray, born April 22, 2009. Stephanie works as an interpreter at Drayton Hall, an historic site in Charleston, South Carolina. She recently gave a tour to the executive director of Sotterley Plantation and a recent St. Mary’s College graduate. The family lives in Summerville, South Carolina.

 

 

 

 

To Sara O’Rourke Prather ’98 and Derrick Prather, a daughter, Cassidy Subhashini Prather, born December 1, 2009. Sara and Derrick work for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. The family lives in Damascus, Maryland.

 

 

To Nick Hathaway ’00 and Annie Hathaway, a son, Martin Seth Hathaway, born June 4, 2010. He joins big brothers Aiden, 6, and Daniel “Clip”, 3, and big sister Sophie, 5. Nick graduated from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2007, and is the youth pastor for Liberty Church, Presbyterian Church of America in Owings Mills, Maryland. Annie works part-time as a pediatrics nurse. The family lives in Eldersburg, Maryland.

 

 

To Mark Hershfield ’00 and Sara Cheson Hershfield, a daughter, Samantha Robyn Hershfield, born June 14, 2010, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. The family lives in Point of Rocks, Maryland.

 

 

To Erin Michener Martin ’00 and Tom Martin, a son, Jacob Thomas Martin, born October 30, 2009. He joins big brother, Henry Paul, 2. Erin is an interdisciplinary resource teacher in Montgomery County, Maryland; Tom is an attorney for his own firm, Thomas B. Martin, PLL C. The family lives in Washington, D.C.

 

 

To Emily Sherman Webb ’00 and Vince Webb, a daughter, Freya Grace Webb, born April 16, 2010. Freya shares her birthday with her 18-year-old half brother, Chris. Emily and Vince both work for AOL . She’s an executive assistant; he’s a senior systems engineer. Emily is also a dog trainer and enjoys teaching one of her rescued dogs, Modi, a border collie, new tricks. The family lives in Centreville, Virginia.

 

 

To Carrie Hughes Peery ’01 and Jonathan Peery, a son, John William “Jack” Peery, born April 10, 2010, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. Carrie is a program manager for Health Solutions Services in Owings Mills, Maryland; Jonathan is a sales representative for N.B. Handy Company. The family lives in Annapolis.

 

 

 

 

 

To Anya Parker Olsen ’02 and Ryan Olsen ’02, a daughter, Eila Olsen, born June 11, 2010. Anya works as a social science research analyst for the Social Security Administration. Ryan is an economist for the U.S. Maritime Administration. The family lives in Montgomery Village, Maryland.

 

 

 

 

To Sarah Jardeleza ’03 and Curtis “C.J.” Winger, Jr. ’03, twin girls, Talia and Sonja, born May 22, 2009. They join big brother, Duncan, 4. In May, Sarah received her doctorate in plant biology from the University of Georgia, spent the summer there as an instructor of record, and has begun a post-doctoral position researching the improvement of biology pedagogy at Michigan State University. C.J. also works for the University as an information technology specialist for the campus planning administration. The family lives in Okemos, Michigan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

To Emily Mullen ’04 , a daughter, Lahna Gaillene Surin, born February 17, 2010. Emily is the business manager for Harmony Hall Retirement Community in Columbia, Maryland. The family lives in Columbia.

 

 

 

 

 

To Joanna Robey Jewett ’04 and Matt Jewett, a daughter, Margaret Sabrina Jewett, born April 22, 2010. Margaret is the niece of Molly Robey ’01 and Robert Erlewine ’99. Matt works at Patuxent River Naval Air Station and Joanna is a stay-at-home mother. The family lives in Lexington Park.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To Sarah Posey Sharpless ’06 and John Sharpless ’09, a son, Charles Ambrose Sharpless, born March 24, 2010. This year, the family moved from Mechanicsville, Maryland, to Birmingham, Alabama, for John’s summer internship with Sterne Agee, and then to Dallas where John is pursuing his master’s of science degree in finance from the University of Texas.
