| In 2004, the St. Mary's Jazz Combo grew from
simply being a smaller, chamber portion of the Big Band, to its own
independent group. The members of the St. Mary's Jazz Combo are
selected from the Big Band Ensemble, and performs its own
concerts throughout the school year, in addition to being featured during Big
Band concerts.
Don Stapleson leads the group through more improvisational and solo-driven pieces, ranging from the bop works of John Coltrane and Miles Davis to the jazz-rock of Herbie Hancock to bossanova and rag time tunes.
