Donald Spinelli has served as the principal percussionist of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra since 1989.  Originally from Pittsburgh, Don received his Masters degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston in 1980.  There, he performed with the Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, and, Houston Ballet orchestras from 1979 to 1986.  In addition, during that time, he also worked with luminaries such as Luciano Pavarotti and James Galway, among others.  Mr. Spinelli relocated to Virginia in 1987 and joined The United States Marine Band, "The President's Own," in which he currently performs, often as percussion soloist. 

Don is frequently seen at The White House with the Marine Band and has performed there with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Tricia Yearwood, Anita Baker, Marilyn Horne, Marvin Hamlisch, and, Wayne Newton.  He has toured and performed with a number of Broadway shows including The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Evita, and A Chorus Line to name a few.  He has performed as concert soloist with all the aforementioned ensembles.

In addition, Don has been seen in performance with all the major and regional orchestras in the D.C. metro area.  He resides in Springfield, Virginia, with his wife of 16 years, Diane, and their seven children, Catherine, Sophie, Bianca, Isabel, Joseph, John Paul, and Mary.
