Janice Murphy received her bachelor of music degree from the University of Southern California and her master's degree from DePaul University in Chicago, where she studied with Chicago Symphony clarinetist Larry Combs. While living in Chicago, Ms. Snedecor was principal clarinet in the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and performed with the Northwest Indiana Symphony, South Bend Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. In 1987, she won the position of artist-in-residence at Regents Park, a luxury high-rise in Chicago.
Ms. Murphy currently holds a position in "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, Washington, D.C., where her duties include year-round concerts, chamber music, and performances with the White House Orchestra. She plays second clarinet with the Alexandria Symphony and has performed with the Annapolis Symphony, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Capital City Opera, and the Opera of Northern Virginia. She lives in Crofton, Maryland.
