St. Mary's Orchestra

Jeff Silberschlag  Conductor

The St. Mary's Orchestra, established by Jeff Silberschlag in 1987, is made up of both major and non-major musicians.  Under the baton of Jeff Silberschlag, the group performs regularly in DC Metro area, and is featured in an annual music festival in Alba, Italy every June.

A particularly popular campus event is the orchestra's informal Friday Concert Series, which has featured guest musicians such as Brian Ganz.  The Friday concerts allow maestro Silberschlag and guest musicians to discuss with the public the history and structure of popular sonatas by composers such as Brahms and Mozart, giving the series a light-hearted and educational atmosphere.

The orchestra plays a wide-variety of repertoire, ranging from standard orchestral classics to more modern works by composers such as Morton Gould and David Froom.  Guest musicians such as Giuseppe Nova, Jose Cueto and others frequently accompany the orchestra as well.  Select members of the of orchestra also perform weekly in the Chesapeake Orchestra at the River Concert Series over the summer.
