Contact Information: Email: jmgrossman@smcm.edu Expertise: Atomic physics; laser cooling & trapping of atoms; atomic
spectroscopy; precision measurements; quantum information; physics education
research. Grossman primarily researches atoms captured and cooled to a
fraction of a degree above absolute zero, using lasers and magnetic fields. His works focuses on novel techniques for
atomic cooling and trapping, using cold atoms in sensors, and quantum computing
with cold atoms. He also investigates
quantum measurement and quantum walks.
His education research involves new apparatuses for varied modes of
learning, as well as comparison of metrics for student learning outcomes and
effective teaching. He has also worked to build education and research ties
between academia and the Navy community in Southern Maryland.
