(St. Mary’s City, MD) Nov. 10, 2008 – The St. Mary’s College and Historic St. Mary’s City Capital Design Advisory committee (CDA) meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Cole Cinema in the St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM) Campus Center. Free transportation by van to and from the meeting, within a 20-minute radius of St. Mary’s City, may be arranged by calling 240-895-2200. The CDA was created by SMCM and Historic St. Mary’s City to provide an interface for community input to their capital development planning.  The CDA is charged with seeking public comment in its review of master plan and design proposals for major capital improvement and landscape projects on the St. Mary’s College campus and the grounds of Historic St. Mary’s City.

Membership of the CDA includes representatives from established community organizations, the college, and the city.  These include the following:  Chip Jackson, SMCM co-chair; Regina Faden, HSMC co-chair; James Hardin, Trinity Parish representative; Gary Williams, St. Mary’s River Watershed Association representative; Ingrid Swann, St. Mary’s County Arts Council representative; Raymond Dodson, St. Mary’s Chamber of Commerce representative; Pete Himmelheber, St. Mary’s County Historical Society representative; Julia King, faculty representative; Mac McClintock, college staff representative; and Sunny Schnitzer, student representative.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review, and Kiplinger’s. Founded in 1840 as Maryland’s “monument school” commemorating the state’s first capital, SMCM is the state’s only public honors college, offering “an Ivy-level College with a public-school price tag” (Newsweek).
