New York Times Journalist Speaks Sunday, Apr. 15, 8 p.m.

David Sanger, New York Times chief correspondent for the White House, returns to St.David Sanger Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM) on Sunday, April 15 at 8 p.m. He will lecture on the topic of "Iraq, Iran, North Korea: Covering the Crises of the Bush Presidency." The lecture is in Blackistone Room inside Anne Arundel Hall and is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Michael Taber at (240) 895-4900.

This is David Sanger's fourth visit to St. Mary's as this year's Nitze Senior Fellow. He has met with classes in political science, economics, and Nitze Program seminars, and had a discussion with staff of The Point News about careers in journalism. Sanger has been invited to speak about his recent experiences covering the White House and foreign policy.

Each year, the College invites an accomplished writer or journalist to be the Nitze Senior Fellow and to visits campus several times. Last year, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edward P. Jones gave readings and joined in on a panel about why writers write. Previously, National Public Radio host Diane Rehm spoke about the importance of civil dialogue in public, in private, and in campus discourse.

Michael Taber, assistant professor of philosophy and director of the Nitze Scholars Program, says, "Because so much of the education at St. Mary's is formatted as discussion-based seminars, this means that the Fellow has to be willing to engage people other than at a podium, and David Sanger has con-tinued the Nitze Senior Fellows' tradition of being wonderful at this."

St. Mary's College of Maryland is ranked one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review and Kiplinger's. With roots going back to 1840, SMCM is the state's only public honors college, offering the academic excellence of a top private college with the openness and affordability of public education.
