Italy Study Tour Itinerary

January 2003

Jan 2. By air from Baltimore or Washington to Rome.

Jan 3. Arrival Rome noon: Transfer via coach arranged by travel agent to centrally located hotel in Rome. Walking tour. Overnight with breakfast in Hotel Palation.

Jan 4. Rome: Walking tour of ancient Rome, incl. Forum, Coliseum. Overnight with breakfast in Hotel Palatino.

Jan 5. Rome: Ancient Rome continue walking tour (also local subway) incl. St. Peter’s Cathedral. Overnight with breakfast at Hotel Palatino.

Jan 6. Rome/Naples: By coach (with the alumni group) we depart for Naples to stay in the Hotel Santa Marta near Naples—a splendid location and very safe area. Dinner and overnight.

Jan 7. Naples: Guided excursion with private coach to Herculaneum. Dinner/overnight in Santa Marta.

Jan 8. Naples: Full day visit with local guide and private coach to Pompeii. Dinner/overnight in Santa Marta.

Jan 9. Naples: Full day visit (guide + coach) continue Pompeii. Dinner/overnight in Santa Marta.

 Jan 10. Naples/Rome: After visit to the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, depart from Naples by private coach (shared with the alumni group) for Rome. Overnight with breakfast at Hotel Palatino.

Jan 11. Rome: Guided visit of the Vatican Museum, coach plus any other visits or museum of interest to you. Overnight with breakfast at Hotel Palatino.

Jan 12. Rome: Day tour via coach to Hadrian’s Villa at Tivoli and Villa d’Este (Guide can be provided if needed) Overnight with breakfast at Hotel Palatino.

Jan 13. Rome: Excursion by the local underground to Ostia Antica. (Guide not included – can be provided at extra charge). Overnight with breakfast at Hotel Palatino.

 Jan 14. Rome: Guided visit by local public bus or subway in the Domus Aurora (Nero’s Palace – only 9/10 persons at a time after special permit). The other participants could meanwhile visit Borghese Gallery. Overnight with breakfast at Hotel Palatino.

Jan 15. Rome: Guided excursion by private coach/guide to the Baths of Caracalla, and the Ancient Via Appia with Scipio’s Tomb, Arch of Crusus, Appian Gate, Remains of Imperial Tombs. Circus of Emperor Maxentius, Tomb of Cecilia Metella, Tomb of Romulus and the Catacombs of St. Callixtus or of Sebastan or of St. Domitilla and St. Peter in Chains (Moses by Michelangelo) Overnight with breakfast at Hotel Palatino.

Jan 16. Rome—USA: Morning transfer via coach arranged by travel agent to airport for return flight to the U.S.
