Wediko Summer Program in New Hampshire

Wediko is a non-profit agency with over 70 years of experience dedicated to children whose learning, social development, and self-direction is lagging.  During the summer months, Wediko operates its New Hampshire Summer Program, an academic residential treatment setting for children with serious emotional and behavioral disturbances (SED). 

Each year, the Summer Program offers paid internships to students from universities and colleges across the nation. These interns not only enable the success of 145 at-risk youth, but also benefit from ample opportunities for personal and professional growth. 

This opportunity offers a stipend, room & board, as well as an AmeriCorps education award for those who qualify.

The Curry School of Education at University of Virginia Ed. Psych.: Applied Dev. Science Summer Undergraduate Research Program aims to:

  • help students strengthen the skills needed to get into and successfully complete a doctorate program in education research
  • recruit qualified students for doctoral training in·EP-ADS leading to research careers in the education sciences in academic, policy, or research organizations
  • increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who enter EP-ADS which will in turn help diversify the field of education research and broaden the range of perspectives

This is an 8-week program, with interns arriving in Charlottesville on June 8th and departing on August 3rd. Interns must be able to commit to the full 8 weeks.

The Center for Children is a private, non-profit organization that provides comprehensive mental health services to children and their families. It is currently the largest provider of children's mental health services in Southern Maryland.

They are always looking for volunteers and are searching for case managers [Bachelors Degree Required. Full-time providing in-home therapeutic services to adolescents and their families in Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's Counties. For over 30 years, the Devereux Institute of Clinical Training & Research in suburban Philadelphia has offered eight to nine full-time, full-year Professional Psychology Traineeship Program.  Trainees participate in applied research and clinical program evaluation studies, engage in a variety of psychological services including supportive counseling, milieu therapy, and behavioral assessment, and attend seminars with staff psychologists with possible additional opportunities to attend clinical case conferences and continuing education programs for Devereux clinical staff. Full-year trainees receive a stipend of and a generous benefits package including medical insurance and paid vacations and holidays.

Founded in 1927, The League for People is a pivotal and pioneering agency committed to offering annually more than 2,000 individuals with multiple, physical, cognitive and neurological disabilities the opportunities to gain independence through a comprehensive continuum of vocational, rehabilitative, educational, medical, wellness and social services.

The League for People has several positions open and internships available for it's Camping & Therapeutic Recreation Program, Camp Greentop, in Western Maryland.


Camp Ramapo in Rhinebeck, NY is one of the few residential summer camps serving children with social, emotional, and learning problems. Specialty counselors are offered a salary, room and board, and travel reimbursement. Also, through their affiliation with the National Program on Non-collegiate Sponsored Instruction (National PONSI), Camp Rampo offers an on-site fieldwork course, "Field Experience in Special Education", worth 6 credit hours to camp counselors.


The Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University offers several summer internship opportunities and free seminars.


Pathways, Inc. offers comprehensive rehabilitative, treatment, and vocational services as well as affordable housing to adolescents and adults. Based in Hollywood, MD, it is the longest operating and largest provider of community-based mental health services in St. Mary's County.  Positions are open and internship opportunities are available.


Camp Royall is a residential summer camp run in conjunction with the Autism Society of North Carolina (30 mins from Chapel Hill ). It serves children and adults  (ages 4+) with autism. Counselor positions usually fill up by early April. Work for pay or earn internships credit.


The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) seeks staff to help offer their
intense 3-week summer academic programs for talented elementary, middle and high school students. Residential site locations are located in 29 locations around the country and around the world. Salary plus room and board is available.

Summer Science Fellowships sponsored by the American Psychological Association

will allow undergraduate students to be immersed in psychological science during an expenses-paid summer training program. The program will be held late June through early August at George Mason and the University of Maryland. Psychology Majors who are rising Seniors may apply. The application deadline is February 9.
