Jackie McGill received a BS in Biochemisty and Psychology in 2007. She is currently pursuing an M.D. at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Katelyn Opel ‘06 is a graduate student in the University of Maryland's Family Studies masters program in hopes of pursuing a career in marital therapy. |
Hillary Leech graduated in '07 with minors in neuroscience and philosophy. She currently works for the American Speech-Language Hearing Association’s National Center for Evidence-Based Practice as a research assistant, helping the association conduct systematic reviews of literature that pertain to communication disorders. "My experience as a research assistant for my professors at St. Mary’s really helped me to qualify for the job. During the interview I was able to give my future employer a copy of a directed research project that I had completed while at St. Mary’s. I think it made a big difference and proved to him that I was capable of doing quality research." |

Elliot Blackwell '05 is currently in her first year of a Counseling Psychology master's program at Towson University. She has a graduate assistantship in the Academic Achievement Center, where she works with students in an Academic Special Admit Program, create & presents Study Skills Workshops . She plans on receiving her master's degree within 2 and a half years, and then gaining her Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) license by 2 years after that. Hope Lobkowicz ‘05 is currently a volunteer at the Marine Mammal Center’s rescue and release program on the central coast of California. After doing some traveling this year, she’s planning go back to school in 2006 to get a degree in either zoology, environmental studies, or international politics. For her St. Mary’s Project, Hope conducted naturalistic observations on a sample of California sea lions to analyze behavioral trends. Her SMP is part of the 2004-2005 SMP in Psychology Showcase. |
Joshua Chiappelli '04 is currently pursuing a medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He is expected to complete his studies in 2008.

Kat Sidhom '04 received her Master's in Education from William and Mary in School Psychology in May 2005, and will be continuing in the program to get her Educational Specialist's degree in 2007.

| Deirdre Bulger '04 is in currently in a Master's Program at Fresno Pacific University gaining an M.A. in Leadership and Organizational Development with credentials in Conflict Resolution in the Workplace. She works as a case manager/counselor for the Central Valley Regional Center resourcing, developing programs, and securing services for children age 0-6 who are either at risk for developmental disabilities or have an established developmental disability. | ||

Courtney (Young) Marmen '02 currently works full-time as a 1st-3rd grade teacher at Bay Montessori School in St. Mary's County, MD. Outside of her teaching duties, she serves as the SMCM Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach. Marmen is married and lives in St. Mary's City, Maryland. Her husband, Jared (also a SMC alum), is currently an assistant coach with the men's lacrosse program. |

In 2005, Rebecca Anderson ’02 started a five-year doctoral program in industrial/organizational psychology at the Institute of Psychology at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. She says she owes “all the thanks in the world to the stellar education [she] received at St. Mary’s.” |
Kerry Haffey '98 is currently planning to complete her PhD in Counseling Psychology through Auburn University at the end of summer 2005. She is on internship at the University of Louisville Medical School in pediatric psychology and has accepted a post-doc position at the Nemours Children's Clinic and Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL that will begin in September 2005 (the position is in pediatric psychology/oncology). Kerry would be happy to speak with any psych majors who are interested in counseling, pediatric, or health psychology. |

Alex Czopp ’98 worked briefly in the SMCM Office of Institutional Research and was then accepted into a PhD program at the University of Kentucky to work with Dr. Margo Monteith, earning his MS in 2001 and a PhD in experimental social psychology in 2004. Currently, he is an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Toledo. His research is within the general area of stereotyping and prejudice. Specifically, his research examines how interpersonal confrontations may be effective in curbing prejudice. In addition, he is examining how “positive” stereotypes about social groups (e.g., beliefs that Blacks are great athletes, Asians are smart, women are nurturing) can have negative implications for intergroup relations and the perpetuation of prejudice. |
Jessica (Deucthman) Mohler '98 graduated in 2000 from The University of Maryland, College Park with an M.A. in Kinesiology with a specialty in Sport and Exercise Psychology and recently earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Loyola College. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and has recently completed her internship year at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. A Lieutenant with 3 more years committed to the military, Jessica moved Jacksonville, FL in July 2005 where she is stationed at the Naval Air Station Hospital. |
Viki (Johnson) Hook ’97 works as a Research Applications Programmer for The Center for Naval Analysis Corporation in Alexandria, VA. “I am involved in multiple stages of the research process, from project proposal, planning, literature searches, data collection, database development and management, statistical analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data. I present findings to our clients, as well as write formal documents, and develop accompanying management tools.”

Michael Rozalski ‘94 is currently an Assistant Professor at the Ella Cline Shear School of Education at SUNY Geneseo, he teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses on how to educate students with behavior problems. His research interests include classroom and school-wide supports and legal issues related to students with disabilities. Upon graduation from SMCM, Michael spent three years living in the woods, while working as a counselor/teacher in a residential wilderness program. In early 1998, Michael began work at a juvenile justice center in Columbia and taught students with emotional/behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, and mental retardation. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled at the University of South Carolina to pursue his interests in special education and research. Michael earned an M.Ed. in both Educational Research (1999) and Special Education- Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (2000), and his Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of South Carolina in 2001. He is married to featured alumna, Brigid Cahill ‘94. |
Brigid Cahill ’94 -Prior to continuing her education, she worked first as a preprofessional trainee with the Devereux Foundation near Philadelphia, PA, and then as a research assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. While in graduate school, she pursued research in treatment outcomes and in successful aging. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical-Community Psychology at the University of South Carolina in 2002, after completing her predoctoral internship through the University of Rochester Medical Center's Department of Psychiatry. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester's Counseling Center, she joined the faculty. She is married to featured alum, Michael Rozalski ‘94. |
Anne Marie Himmelheber Brady '93 received her M. A. in 1997 and a PhD in Psychobiology from The Ohio State University in 2000. Following graduate school, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Albany Medical College, where she learned to directly measure the electrical activity of neurons in rats' brains. In 2004, she became an Assistant Professor of Psychology at SMCM, and also participates in the Cross-Disciplinary Minor in the Neurosciences. Her research here focuses on the neurobiological basis of schizophrenia and drug addiction, through the measurement of behavior, and the assessment of neuroanatomical structure and function. |

Pamela Hagins ‘93 is a paralegal with the Office of the Attorney General representing the Maryland Environmental Service. She received an M.S. in Criminal Justice from University of Baltimore in 1995, and a Certificate of Paralegal Studies in 2000. |

Micheal L. Dent ’92 is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University at Buffalo, SUNY studying acoustic communication in animals. She received her M.S. in Integrative Neuroscience from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1996 and her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2002. She then went on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School in the Physiology Department before obtaining her current position at UB. “The Psychology Department at St. Mary’s was instrumental in shaping the direction of my career. I began college intending to become an elementary school teacher. However, during my second year of college I took The Psychology of Learning, Sensation and Perception, and Psychological Statistics – and was hooked. After college, I linked up with a lab at the University of Maryland that studied hearing in animals using operant conditioning techniques and I’ve never looked back.” |
Patrick Vargas '92 graduated from SMCM with a double-major in Psychology and Philosophy. He went directly to graduate school and received his MA (1994) & PhD (1997) in Social Psychology at Ohio State, where he also minored in Quantitative Psychology and Cognitive Psychology. He spent a year as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of New South Wales, in Sydney, Australia, and moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1998. Patrick is currently an Associate Professor of Advertising, with appointments in the Department of Psychology, and the Institute for Communications Research at the University of Illinois. |
Nandi [Sharon] Crosby '91 received her M.A. in Africana Women's Studies from Clark Atlanta University in 1995, and a PhD in Sociology from Georgia State University in 1999. She is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology at California State University, Chico

Lori Smoker '90 received her M.S. in Counseling, specialization in college counseling, from Shippensburg University (PA), in 1993 and is currently the Associate Director & Student Employment Coordinator with the Center for Career Development at Kalamazoo College. "...all students of the liberal arts should consider themselves generalists before falling under the belief that [their] future options will be dictated by [their major]. As a career counselor of liberal arts graduates for the last 12 years, I find our society has driven home the message "you are your major" and while there are traditional paths to pursue...the majority of people will find their 'calling' only after fully exploring a wide range of interests and passions - many of which may be irrelevant to [their] major studies." |
Lorna Orndorff '89 was promoted to the rank of captain in the United States Army Medical Services Branch as a social work officer on June 1, 2005. She currently provides rehabilitative counseling services to inmates within the United States Disciplinary Barracks in the Department of Defense at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Lorna sends her love and good wishes to her many old friends and asks them to join her in her prayer for world peace. |
Laurie Ryan '86 graduated in 1991 from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD with a M.A. in Clinical Psychology and went on to receive her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (APA accredited; Specialty Area: Clinical Neuropsychology - APA Division 40/INS guidelines) from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA , in 1997. From 1997-1999, she completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at Thomas Jefferson University/Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. Laurie is currently the Assistant Director for Research & a Senior Neuropsychologist for The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. She is also an Assistant Professor of Neurology for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. |
David Flanagan ‘87 earned a Master's of Education from UMCP after graduating from St. Mary’s. He is now a Technology Based Learning Manager at the Center for Learning & Development of KPMG in Washington, DC. His duties include consulting with internal clients, conducting needs assessments, gap analysis, program and curriculum design and development, instructional design, computer and web user interface design, project management, and technology-based learning initiatives. |

Paul LeBuffe ‘77 received his Master's degree in experimental psychology from Bryn Mawr College. Currently the Director of the Institute of Clinical Training and Research of the Devereux Foundation, Paul is an author of the Devereux Behavior Rating Scale - School Form, the Devereux Scales of Mental Disorders, the DSMD Scoring Assistant computer program and, most recently, the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) and the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment Clinical Form (DECA-C). His major research interests are the measurement and promotion of resilience in young children, psychometrics and test development, treatment outcome evaluation in behavioral healthcare, and suicide prevention education. He has published and presented to professional audiences throughout the country in these areas. He is active in a number of professional and community organizations concerned with young children and individuals with developmental and psychiatric disorders. |
