Specialty Housing Options

In addition to our other housing options, St. Mary's College offers students the opportunity to combine their academic life with their experiences outside of the classroom. We have three living learning centers, where students live with others who have similar academic interests:

  • Eco-House--for students who have an interest and are taking course work in Environmental Studies. For more information, contact Dr. Leah Eller or Dr. Kate Chandler.
  • Women in Science House (WiSH)--a living learning center for 18 women interested in science, the language of science, and women in science. WiSHers work on many outreach projects each semester in the campus and local communities. For more information, contact Dr. Lindsay Jamieson or Dr. Samantha Elliott.
  • Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies House (WGSX)--for students who have an interest in and are taking course work in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. For more information, contact Dr. Katherine Gantz

All of the living learning centers are located in Waring Commons suites and apartments.

We also offer students who wish to abstain from the use of alcohol and other substances in their residence (as well as avoid the secondary effects of other students' use) the option to live with like-minded individuals in the Substance and Alcohol-Free Environment (SAFE) House.SAFE House is located in Queen Anne Hall for first-year female students, and in Waring Commons for first-year male students as well as upperclass students.
