Check your housing and roommate assignments. Your housing assignment and roommate information will be mailed from the Office of Residence Life during the first week of July. This information is also accessible on your SMARTNet account at this time. If you have not received your housing assignment by July 23, contact the Office of Residence Life at (240) 895 4207.
Contact your roommate(s) and decide who will bring what items. Commonly shared items include a mini-refrigerator, TV, VCR or DVD player, stereo, whiteboard, and carpet.
Check to make sure that your belongings are insured, either through your parents' homeowners' or renters' insurance policy, or through additional insurance that you purchase. The College does not provide insurance for students' personal belongings.

What to expect on move-in day
The residence halls open for first-year students on Thursday, August 23rd at 9 a.m. Move-in continues until 3 p.m.
Because most first-year students arrive on the same day, the area around the traditional residence halls (where most first-year students live) can become congested. For this reason, we ask that you unload your belongings quickly to the curb outside your residence hall and then move your vehicle to Lot T (Guam).
Check-in occurs in the lobby of your assigned residence hall. Check-in for Waring Commons and Lewis Quad occur in the staff offices of those areas.
Members of the campus Move-in Crew will be available to assist you with moving your belongings, and the Alumni Office provides water at stations in and around the residence halls.
When you check in, you will be given a lot of information, including:
A combination card with your housing assignment, phone number and room combination or key. Put this in a safe place, and do not give your room combination out to anyone.
Your SMCM ID card, which will give you access to your residence hall, activates the laundry machines, and activates your meal plan, flex and debit accounts.
Your Room Condition Report (RCR) and instructions. You should conduct a thorough inspection of your room and note any items that are damaged or missing. This form is due back to your Resident Assistant within 48 hours of occupying your room.
Your parking decal (if applicable).
Helpful information provided by offices around campus.
A package of poster mounts, which you can use to safely hang posters on your walls.
A schedule of activities for Orientation Weekend.
Orientation Activities begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday and continue through Sunday. Parents and other family members should plan to leave prior to 4 p.m. to ensure that students arrive on time to Orientation. All Orientation activities are designed to help first-year students acclimate and thus are strongly recommended.
All first-year students are required to attend building meetings on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m.
How to Move-out
Students must vacate the residences at the end of the academic year. A students' belongings may remain the room during breaks.
Students are required to move-out of their residences no more than 24 hours after their last final exam, or by Tuesday, May 6 at noon, whichever comes first.
To ensure a smooth move-out, follow these steps:
Schedule an appointment with your RA to check-out. Failure to check out with a staff member will result in a fine.
Remove all of your belongings and clean your room. Students may be charged if excessive cleaning is needed.
Review your RCR with your RA and sign it. Turn in your key, if applicable.
Visit the Office of Student Activities to forward your mail for the summer months.
