Smoke and Cameras - A Peek into the Lives of Firefighters at Station 3

In a borrowed yellow canvas coat and heavy black helmet banded with reflecting tape, St. Mary's College junior Michelle Eleni Ladas stepped gingerly into the boarded-up Roses II nightclub, now filled with thick white smoke. Holding onto the arm of a firefighter, she blindly walked through the room. "Words cannot describe the suffocating impact the smoke has on your senses," she says later. "The smoke engulfs you in such a way that all sounds are muffled. No wonder a person could get lost in there."
