Community Service Resource Center
Mission Statement
In order to provide greater opportunities for service at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the Community Service Resource Center will facilitate a more constructive relationship between the student body and the service organizations of Southern Maryland. In line with the College’s Mission Statement, the Resource Center will help foster the social and ethical development of the students by offering them the opportunity to serve the local community in order to accomplish social change. The Center, through its relationships, hopes to create a campus community that uphold the highest value of civic engagement, to inspire the student body to fulfill their responsibility of being active members of the community, and to fulfill here at St. Mary’s the ideal of a community that is built on powerful deeds in service of others.

| Position 1: Student Volunteer
Description: The Keep St. Mary’s Beautiful Campaign (Campaign) was established by students who wanted to preserve the nature beauty of the campus community. Every Sunday, students meet on the Campus Center patio at noon and are assigned to certain sections of campus to pick up trash and small debris that has accumulated over the week. Supplies (including trash bags, gloves, and grapplers) are provided to the students. Time: 12:00 pm Every Sunday Location: Campus Center Patio |

Brief Statement about Organization’s Mission: The mission of Historic Sotterley, Inc, is to preserve, research, and interpret Sotterley plantations diverse cultures and environments and to serve as a public educational resource.
Service Opportunities:
Position Title: Special Events Planning
Hours Required: Most shifts are 4 hours, but they vary depending on the event
Description (Duties, Responsibilities, Goals, ect.): There are different duties and responsibilities for different events. When you contact our organization, we will inform you of the opportunities that we have available and what the corresponding responsibilities will be.
Additional Requirements: Dress code for Riverside Wine Fest, all other events it is best to dress for the weather. (I send out important event information about each event). Check-in is required 20 minutes prior to each event.

Service Opportunities:
Position Title: Food Delivery
Hours Required: TBD (approximately an hour)
Description: The student will be responsible for picking up the food from the Great Room and driving it to the Soup Kitchen located on Great Mills Road. The Kitchen is approximately 15 minutes from the College. The student may also be required to pick up donations from grocery stores in the local community. Times will be determined by the Soup Kitchen’s Director.
Additional Requirements:A driver license and access to a car is necessary.
Position Title: Food Preparation
Hours Required: TBD
Description: Students will help prepare and serve food, cleaning up and organize kitchen, and participate in regular food drives.

Service Opportunities:
Position Title: General Volunteer
Hours Required: 2 hours a week
Description: Volunteers perform a variety of tasks which are important to the operation of the library. We work with our volunteers to determine what tasks are appropriate for each individual. These tasks might include:- Putting items in order on the shelves and straightening shelves
- Searching for missing/misfiled items on shelves
- Pulling books to send to other libraries
- Cleaning and repairing items
- Making copies, folding brochures, performing light clerical duties
- Keeping the library clean, inside and out (i.e. wiping down tables/chairs, dusting, picking up trash outside, etc.)
