ON THE COVER
Three Eager Anthropological Assistants. These
knowledgeable informants from Esquipulas, Guatemala, have successfully
led an ignorant anthropologist to a location where people secure clay
to mold into small squares called "The Lord's
Bread," which, when eaten, will kill the life-threatening craving a
woman may experience during her pregnancy. Photograph taken in the
summer of 1986 by the ignorant anthropologist, who also pretends, but only occasionally, to be a poet.
