The Editors of SlackWater IV: Crassotrea virginica declare this to be a catastrophic moment in the Bay’s ecology. With the loss of the oyster to over-harvesting and disease comes a host of other losses, including water quality, biodiversity, and a vast store of cultural knowledge. The essays here build upon the work of SlackWater IV in the on-going efforts to document, restore, and finally, to memorialize oyster culture in the Maryland Tidewater.
