About SMFN
SMFN Mission Statement: St. Mary’s College of Maryland values the parents, extended family members and guardians of current students and alumni. The St. Mary’s Family Network works closely with administrative staff in order to:
- Serve as resources to St. Mary’s College students and alumni in areas including career exploration, internships, community service, and political service.
- Assist with communication with family members.
- Serve as a resource to the College President and other administrators, from the perspective of family members of students and alumni, concerning matters of current interest to the College community.
- Serve as volunteers for specific activities.
Philosophy of Parent Involvement: There are certain basic tenets that we want to remember regarding the involvement of family members:
- To partner with family members.
- To support the students in a way that is productive to the students and the institution.
- To help us give the students the skills necessary to mature and become productive members of society.
SMFN Goals: The St. Mary’s Family Network was formed to work toward several, on-going goals:
- Promote knowledge and understanding of St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s educational programs and policies.
- Provide a communication channel between family members and the College, as well as among family members.
- Assist with certain events aimed at families, including but not limited to: parent orientation, Family Weekend, and hosting area receptions.
- Assist the College in communication with the family community at large concerning matters of interest to families of students and alumni.
- Partner with the College in nurturing a tradition of family giving.
