ST. MARY'S SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING GUIDELINES
St. Mary's College of Maryland utilizes single stream recycling. Most recyclable materials can be thrown into any recycling container. See this link for a full list of what can and can't be recycled in our single stream system. The College's 2011 recycling rate was its highest ever at 46%.
Electronics can be recycled at the Glendening Help Desk. Printer and toner cartridges can be recycled at the entrance to the Library.
ST. MARY'S COMPOSTING GUIDELINES
Items that can be composted in the 7 campus composting bins:
- Fruit and vegetable scraps

- Egg shells
- Coffee grounds and filters
- Tea bags
- Plain bread and cooked pasta
- Peanut Shells
- Corn cobs and husks
- Tofu
- Drier lint
- Untreated hair
- Cereal
- Nail clippings
- Wilted flower arrangements
- Jack O'Lanterns
- Used matches
- Leaves and hay
- Wood chips and twigs
Items that can't be composted in the 7 campus composting bins:
- Meat
- Dairy
- Fish
- Oils
- Sauces
- Pet waste (bacteria)
- Trash and recycling
- Heavily colored paper
- Plywood
- Highly processed foods
- Biodegradable cups from the Great Room
- Cardboard
