In order to administer the College’s limited e-mail resources equitably, the Campus Information Technology Committee recommends the following e-mail storage policies:
1. Limiting e-mail storage as follows:
a. faculty and staff mailboxes limited to 200Mb each
b. student mailboxes limited to 100Mb each
c. alumni mailboxes limited to 25Mb each
2. Recipients shall be warned via e-mail when their mailboxes reach 80% of authorized capacity whenever an attempt is made to access e-mail.
3. The ability to send e-mail shall be disabled when users’ mailboxes exceeds 90% of the authorized limit. At 100% of the authorized limit, access to incoming e-mail shall also be disabled. Access blocks to incoming mail shall remain in effect until users reduce the amount of stored e-mail. During such times, incoming e-mail shall be retained on the system but not be accessible to recipients, and copies of incoming messages shall be returned to senders with a message informing them that the user’s mailbox is full.
4. Because Technology Services lacks the ability to clean users’ e-mail boxes, users shall be responsible for this task.
