Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule an appointment?
You have several options: you can stop by during our walk-in hours, and we'll do our best to assist you; you can use our online scheduler (your login, if you've never used it before, is your school email with your last name as your password); or you can give us a call at x4493. Calling or stopping by is the best option if you can't make any of the posted hours.

Class Visits
Tutors extend their work outside the Writing Center walls through workshops, presentations and class visits. These class visits may be our most important work in terms of promoting the Center and making writers feel knowledgeable and comfortable with our services. A class visit simply consists of one or two tutors coming to a class to discuss The Writing Center, providing students with details about our mission and methods as well as introducing writers to the tutors, students who care, not the threatening super-writers they may imagine tutors to be. Instructors who wish to have peer tutors visit a class at any point in the semester can contact the Center (x4493 on campus, 240-895-4493 off campus, or by email atscmagruder (at) smcm dt edu). Tutors will arrive either at the beginning of class, or any time designated by the instructor. Class visits take no longer than 15 minutes.
If you would like one or more tutors to visit your class not only to discuss the Center, but also to work with students on an assignment, meet with small groups to peer review papers or anything else, the Writing Center would be happy to help. Visit our web page on Working Within the Classroom or contact the Writing Center.
