Both the College and HSMC are chartered to preserve, interpret and educate the public about our unique history.<\/p>\n<p>The College and HSMC serve the citizens of Maryland by revealing through education and celebration and revere the significance of our regional legacy. Through our partnership,<br \/>\nstudents benefit, as well as visitors, and all of us who identify as citizens or students in a state with a rich and illustrious history.<\/p>\n<p>This collaboration has led to the articulation of the joint programs and projects, including:<\/p>\n<h2>Academic Affairs<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>HSMC is a partner in the College\u2019s Center for the Study of Democracy and Museum Studies<br \/>\nProgram<\/li>\n<li>HSMC staff teach College courses, provide internships, and supervise senior SMP\u2019s<\/li>\n<li>HSMC also hires students to work on archaeological sites and within archaeological curation<br \/>\nlabs<\/li>\n<li>HSMC also hires students to work as costumed interpreters in the City<\/li>\n<li>A number of students attend the HSMC\u2019s annual summer Field School<\/li>\n<li>The Heirloom Garden Project, a joint grant held by HSMC and the College\u2019s environmental<br \/>\nstudies on the Kate Chandler Campus and Community Farm<\/li>\n<li>Collaboration with College\u2019s theater, film and media studies department on recent site-specific staging of &#8220;Macbeth&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Hawktoberfest events routinely include fun run\/walks through HSMC<\/li>\n<li>HSMC staff participate in the annual Museum Studies Week activities\/panels<\/li>\n<li>As part of the Museum Studies steering committee, HSMC members help select our<br \/>\nSullivan&#8217;s Scholars<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Joint Land-use planning and capital projects beginning in the early 2000\u2019s led to:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The St. John\u2019s Site, located on HSMC property surrounded by College property.\u00a0 The State required the College to coordinate planning and project management, and the College provides parking and utilities.<\/li>\n<li>Anne Arundel Hall: located on College property, the College provides HSMC 40% of the building to house its archaeology labs, offices and curation facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Maryland Heritage Interpretive Center, located on College property, the HSMC\u2019s new visitor and exhibit center will commence construction in 2022.\u00a0 (Note: per an agreement with the State, the College is responsible for project management of the Interpretive Center)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland and Historic St. Mary\u2019s City (HSMC) share physical spaces at the historic triangle of land on the south side of Route 5, with a permanent inclination to share land and to steward programs.
