CORE Mentors<\/h3>\n
Advanced undergraduate students (with junior or senior standing) at St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland can apply to be Peer Mentors for the First Year Seminars.<\/p>\n

CORE Peer Mentors help plan seminars, facilitate \u201c5th Hour\u201d events, and provide an advanced student perspective within the Seminars. They receive academic credit by concurrently enrolling in CORE401: Peer Mentoring Practicum.<\/p>\n
How to Apply<\/h4>\n
Three positions available; call for applications will go out in February.<\/p>\n
Applications must include:<\/p>\n
- \n
- A letter that details your interest<\/li>\n
- Your class standing<\/li>\n
- Overall GPA<\/li>\n
- Why you think they would be a good peer mentor<\/li>\n
- Resume<\/li>\n
- The name of one faculty reference<\/li>\n
- The section or sections of the First Year Seminar for which you would want to be considered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n
DB Peer Mentors<\/h3>\n
Peer Mentors are an integral part of the DeSousa-Brent Scholars Program. They serve as a liaison between the College, faculty, and first-year DeSousa-Brent Scholars.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\nLike the CORE Peer Mentors, the DB Peer Mentors help lead classroom discussions and provide an advanced student perspective within seminars; however, they also provide crucial social support, being Scholars who have themselves just completed their first year at St. Mary\u2019s College. They receive academic credit by concurrently enrolling in DBSP301: DeSousa-Brent Mentor I and DBSP302: DeSousa-Brent Mentor II.<\/p>\n

- Must be a St. Mary\u2019s College full-time student<\/li>\n
- Good academic standing (minimum 2.5 GPA)<\/li>\n
- Knowledgeable about the campus<\/li>\n
- Have strong oral and written communication skills<\/li>\n
- Enthusiastic about St. Mary\u2019s College<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n
Summer Bridge Mentors<\/h3>\n
Like the DB Peer Mentors, Summer Bridge Mentors are integral to the DeSousa-Brent Scholars Program. They are the first to welcome first-year scholars to St. Mary\u2019s College.<\/p>\n

- Scholar recruitment<\/li>\n
- Summer Bridge Programming (including fall registration and transportation)<\/li>\n
- Event hosting<\/li>\n
- Summer mentors receive training, housing, a meal plan, and a modest stipend.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Fifteen positions available; call for applications will go out in February.<\/p>\n
