\u00a0The world is changing \u2013 increasingly diverse and interconnected. Creating an inclusive environment is not only the right thing to do, it is necessary to ensure the institution continues to fulfill its vision as the college of choice. It's mission as Maryland\u2019s public honors college. Its core values of access and respect for self and others. First-generation students are an important part of the vibrancy that, as a whole, constitutes the best of St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland. We are committed to providing opportunities for all students to thrive in a rigorous yet supportive academic environment. It is important for us to provide these opportunities since over 20% of students at SMCM are the first in their family to go to college!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

\"First-generation students have fewer people in their social network who went to college and thus cannot help them navigate the difficult and multi-step process of finding, applying, and enrolling in college. Mentoring, however, has been proven to be a successful intervention for helping these populations navigate the post-secondary process (p. 2).\"<\/p>

Sum Primus Summer First Program<\/strong><\/h2><\/div><\/div>

Sum Primus Summer First Program is a one-week, intensive program at St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland designed to help students prepare for their first year of college. Held from August 24\u201328, the program offers early move-in, campus tours, and opportunities to build connections with peers and mentors.<\/p>\n
