This course explores the conceptual foundations and creative practices of contemporary art, with particular focus on postmodern theory and practice; the emergence of alternative or non-traditional media; the influence of the women’s movement and the gay/lesbian liberation movement on contemporary art; as well as globalization, community-based or collaborative processes and other aspects of creativity in the expanded contemporary field.
