We welcome you to hire interns at any time, and ask you to please post your opportunities in Handshake\u2014and <\/span><b>please report all internships to our team<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so that we can offer additional support to interns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. Mary\u2019s College of Maryland supports standards from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.naceweb.org\/internships\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Association of College and Employers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NACE), which states that an internship should include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A learning experience with a real-world opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom. It must not be simply to advance the operations of the employer or replace the work that a regular employee would routinely perform.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learned skills and knowledge that are transferable to other employment settings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A defined beginning and end that is mutually agreed upon and consistent with institutional sponsor guidelines and schedules.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A position description with clear responsibilities and required\/desired qualifications.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clearly defined learning objectives\/goals supportive of the student\u2019s academic program goals and institutional requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Direct supervision by a professional(s) with relevant expertise and educational and\/or professional experience who provides productive feedback, guidance, and the resources and equipment necessary to successfully complete the assignment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are eligible to earn credit for any internship experience, as long as it meets all 6 of these NACE guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-571-7\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-571-7-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-571-7-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"11\" >\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><h3><b>Provide volunteer opportunities<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are happy to share opportunities for our students to connect with nonprofit and community-based organizations for volunteer service involvement.
