Degree Requirements for the Educational Studies Minor
General College Requirements

- All requirements in a major area of study.
Required Courses
At least 20 credit hours, including at least 16 from Educational Studies and at least 12 upper division. All classes must be completed with a minimum grade of C in each course.
In addition to the 16 EDUC credits, students may use one course from this list towards the minor:
- PSYC 230, Lifespan
- PSYC 330, Developmental Psychology with lab
- PSYC 431, Infant & Child Development
- SOCI 316, Sociology of Children and Childhood
- ART 296, Community Arts
- ART 396, Art for Educators
- ILCS 390, Spanish in the Community
- MATH 161, Math for Teachers I
- MATH 162, Math for Teachers 2

The following courses are prerequisites for the SMCM MAT:
- EDUC 206, Education in America: Social Foundations of Education
- EDUC 396, Language Acquisition and Phonemic Awareness (Elementary candidates) OR EDUC 386, Literacy in the Content Area for Secondary Teachers: Part I (Secondary/K-12 candidates)
- EDUC 491, ESL Across the Curriculum
- EDUC 336, Exceptionality: An Introduction to Special Education
- EDUC 368, Educational Psychology

- PSYC 431: Infant and Child Development (4 credits) (preferred) OR PSYC 230: Lifespan Development (4 credits)
