Faculty Development Grants are <strong>not<\/strong> to be used for reimbursements for events that have already taken place. The general information contained here serves as a guideline for what faculty should consider in applying for Faculty Development Grants. The second round of awards made in the <strong>fall term<\/strong> primarily accommodate newly appointed faculty and faculty not awarded funds in the first round. class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<ul>\n<li>All full-time faculty (tenure-track, tenured faculty, lecturers, librarians, full-time visitors) are eligible to receive faculty development money.<\/li>\n<li>Faculty currently on sabbatical are eligible for funding.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Because the College is especially cognizant of the need to support tenure-track faculty in their efforts to start and develop their professional work, funding priority is given to proposals from pre-tenure faculty.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Requested items must conform to the general and specific priorities established by the Senate and Awards Committee, respectively, as outlined below.<\/li>\n<li>Regarding travel-related project proposals: be advised that faculty are welcome to submit requests for funding involving travel - this includes both transportation and lodging.<\/li>\n<li>Any and all travel plans should be made through our College travel partners, not out of pocket, for maximum flexibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-661-3\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-has-style\" ><div id=\"format-and-guidelines\" class=\"panel-row-style panel-row-style-for-661-3\" ><div id=\"pgc-661-3-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-661-3-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_smcm-title panel-first-child\" so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p><strong>In the section that follows, you'll find the official submission form and budget form. This section explains the components of the Google form. All applications should include the applicants full name and a brief proposal title of no more than 100 characters.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The grant request should include the following:<\/p>\n<p>A) \u00a0Report on Previous Three Year\u2019s Funding (submitted directly into <strong>Google Form<\/strong>; do not include in the narrative).<\/p>\n<p>Enter a brief listing on the previous three year\u2019s activities funded by Faculty Development Grants.\u00a0 Where necessary, note years when no grant was awarded, or any deviation from proposal\/award funding.<\/p>\n<p>An appropriate format would read:<\/p>\n<p>2014:\u00a0 Received <strong>$1,120<\/strong> for presentation at the Modern Language Association conference.<\/p>\n<p>2015.\u00a0 No grant awarded.<\/p>\n<p>2016:\u00a0 Awarded <strong>$1,300<\/strong> for conference presentation at the Nineteenth Century Studies Association conference.\u00a0 Because paper was not accepted, funds were instead used for presentation at French Studies Association conference, with an unused balance of <strong>$255<\/strong> returned.<\/p>\n<p>B)\u00a0 Project Justification (uploaded as a separate <strong>document\/PDF<\/strong> on the Google Form)<\/p>\n<p>Each project proposal\u00a0 (<strong>1000-1500 words<\/strong>) should describe the project for a general audience, and in sufficient detail that the Awards Committee can determine the nature and scope of the project.<\/p>\n<p>NB: That if multiple projects are included within one proposal (eg, two separate conferences), you must include a prioritization of those projects.<\/p>\n<p>C)\u00a0 Requested Budget (uploaded as a separate <strong>Google Sheet<\/strong>; copied from template linked below).<\/p>\n<p>The project proposal must include a detailed budget sheet (see link below). <strong>NEW FOR FY26<\/strong>: The budget form has had a major reformat designed to support the eventual work of the AFAs in processing expenses\/reimbursements.<\/p>\n<p>The project budget should list all resources needed for the project, including equipment and supplies, student labor costs, faculty travel expenses, meeting registration fees, etc.. If faculty members have received multiple years of support for the same activities, the Awards Committee will recommend that outside funding be used to support further research. Interested faculty are encouraged to get in touch with Leslie Mangold, Director of Research and Sponsored Programs, who will happily assist them in finding funding sources and in applying for grants. At the fall meeting each year the Awards Committee will consider whether it wishes to advise the Senate to set specific topical priorities for grants for the following academic year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Making the Awards.<\/strong>\u00a0 After the deadline for proposals has passed, the AVP\u2019s office will announce a meeting time for the Awards Committee.\u00a0 The first-round meeting will take place in late March or early April, the second round meeting in late October or early November. Proposals and a summary list of applicants with the amount of grants awarded them the last three years will be available to Committee members on the Portal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-661-9\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-661-9-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-661-9-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_smcm-title panel-first-child\" data-index=\"16\" ><div id=\"grant-notification\" class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-661-9-0-0\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-smcm-title so-widget-smcm-title-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h2 class=\"smcm-section-title navy\" style=\"\">Grant <strong>Notification\/Award<\/strong> Process<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-661-9-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-last-child\" data-index=\"17\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p><strong>Announcement of Awards:<\/strong> Once the awards have been made, the Associate Provost will inform all authors of the decisions about\u00a0 their proposals.\u00a0 After the second round, the Associate Provost will make available to the College community the award recipients, the types of projects that have been funded, and the amount.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Receipt of Funds:<\/strong>\u00a0 The funds awarded will be transferred to the appropriate Academic Fiscal Administrator (AFA) and will be dispersed from that office.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Note<\/strong> that faculty members who do not complete the authorization forms in time to process the funding during the year for which it was awarded will normally not receive the funds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-661-10\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-has-style\" ><div id=\"other-considerations\" class=\"panel-row-style panel-row-style-for-661-10\" ><div id=\"pgc-661-10-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-661-10-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_smcm-title panel-first-child\" data-index=\"18\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-smcm-title so-widget-smcm-title-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h2 class=\"smcm-section-title navy\" style=\"\">Other <strong>Considerations<\/strong><\/h2><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-661-10-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"19\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<ul>\n<li>We expect faculty development funds to be spent on the projects that were originally proposed. However, we also realize that plans sometimes change. If your plans change and you are no longer planning to complete the original project, please notify the <strong>Associate Provost<\/strong>\u00a0promptly. You can propose a new project but that proposal must be accompanied by a new budget and it must be approved before you spend the funds.
