{"id":49,"date":"2025-01-23T15:52:15","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T15:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/health-services\/?page_id=49"},"modified":"2025-01-23T15:52:24","modified_gmt":"2025-01-23T15:52:24","slug":"patient-rights-responsibilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/health-services\/patient-rights-responsibilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Patient Rights &#038; Responsibilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pl-49\"  class=\"panel-layout\" ><div id=\"pg-49-0\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-49-0-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-49-0-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"0\" >\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p>As a client of Student Health Services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to quality health care.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to be treated with respect, consideration, and dignity.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to be treated in a manner which does not discriminate against any person because of age, ancestry, color, disability or handicap, national origin, race, religious creed, sex, sexual orientation or veterans&#8217; status.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to participate in decisions concerning your health care.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to accurate information concerning diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of an illness or health-related condition.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to a second opinion or referral.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to privacy during medical care.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to confidentiality of all communications with staff and confidentiality of the medical record, and the right to approve or refuse release of information to the fullest extent provided by law.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to refuse recommendations for medical care.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>responsibility<\/strong>\u00a0to arrive as scheduled for appointments and to notify the clinic in advance in case of canceled appointments.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>responsibility<\/strong>\u00a0to provide full information about your illness or health problem to assure proper evaluation and treatment.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>responsibility<\/strong>\u00a0to ask sufficient questions to ensure understanding of your illness or problem, as well as your provider&#8217;s recommendations for continuing care.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>responsibility<\/strong>\u00a0to become informed through available printed material and\/or discussion with the health staff about the scope of basic services offered, the cost, and the necessity for additional insurance.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>responsibility<\/strong>\u00a0to communicate with your provider if the condition does not improve or follow the expected course.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>responsibility<\/strong>\u00a0to maintain a healthy lifestyle.<\/li>\n<li>You have the\u00a0<strong>right and responsibility<\/strong>\u00a0to bring forward suggestions or grievances about the College&#8217;s Health Service.\u00a0 This includes the\u00a0<strong>right<\/strong>\u00a0to receive a personal response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a client of Student Health Services: You have the\u00a0right\u00a0to quality health care.
