Assistant Varsity Sailing Coach (10-month position)
St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City is accepting résumés for the 10-month position of Assistant Varsity Sailing Coach. Responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of administering and coaching the varsity sailing program including: on-the-water coaching, workout and practice organization, regatta management, recruitment of qualified student-athletes, mentoring team members, conforming to ICSA rules, assisting in fleet and facility maintenance, hosting special events, teaching sailing classes as necessary, fund-raising and promotion of the sailing program.
Preferred qualifications: Ability to meet US Sailing Level III certified coach qualifications, one year of sailing coaching experience at the intercollegiate level, intimate knowledge of intercollegiate sailing and elite level dinghy racing experience. Previous fund raising or marketing experience. Ability to relate to varied members of a college community.
Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution. At least five years’ experience sailing dinghies and keelboats including extensive racing background. Experience coaching collegiate or international dinghy racing, experience in boat maintenance and repair, and effective interpersonal skills. Ability to lift approximately fifty (50) pounds. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination, medical and religious exemptions will be considered. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
