Director of Equity Programming
St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City is accepting résumés for the position of Director of Equity Programming. This position reports directly to the VP for Equity and Strategic Initiatives (VPESI) and is primarily responsible for the design and delivery of co-curricular Equity programming at the college. The position is directly responsible for the management of DeSousa-Brent, Landers, and Sum Primus Scholars programs, as well as other initiatives designed to support historically underrepresented students success at SMCM. Guided by an understanding of student development theory, the Director will build a comprehensive academic and social program calendar serving all students enrolled in Scholar programs or other initiatives focusing on student recruitment, retention, and graduation from underrepresented groups. These programs will increase student engagement and allow students to connect and contribute to the larger St. Mary’s community. The Director will develop, execute, and/or support all Scholars programing to include Summer Bridge, orientation, mentor programs, and be responsible for identifying and/or designing off-campus activities in support of programming outcomes.
Qualifications: Master’s degree with three (3) to five (5) years professional experience leading historically underrepresenting and/or marginalized student programming, preferably in higher education. Must have excellent communication skills to include written, oral, and interpersonal skills; this position will be responsible for negotiating contracts with vendors, speaking with parents, and giving presentations for recruitment. Experience with peer support, residence life, or student affairs desired. Demonstrate an understanding and experience with foundational principles related to the recruitment, support, and success of students who are historically underrepresented in higher education. Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered.
