Director of Public Safety
St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City is accepting résumés for the position of Director of Public Safety. The Director of Public Safety provides leadership and oversight for the Office of Public Safety and is responsible for leading and administering a complex department responsible for campus safety and security including parking, transportation, access, emergency management, event security and integrated security systems. Responsible for long term planning, management, and training of all uniform security officers. Must be able to work independently to handle confidential and sensitive issues with diplomacy. May supervise other clerical and student employees.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, management, or business. Certified as MPTC officer and qualified in the use of firearms and other specialized equipment deemed necessary. Advance training in safety and security desirable. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in all phases of law enforcement work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience required. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Ability to understand and follow instructions and to express ideas effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work with a variety of skilled, unskilled, professional, and administrative personnel. Knowledge of office administration, budgeting, repair and maintenance of equipment, safety, and security matters.
