Fiscal Administrator/Payroll
St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City is accepting résumés for the position of Fiscal Administrator/Payroll in the Office of Human Resources. This position is responsible for maintaining weekly payrolls consisting of regular payroll and contractual payroll. Transmits payrolls electronically from St. Mary’s College to the State of Maryland Central Payroll Bureau weekly to meet required deadlines. Processes payrolls, consisting of substantial data entry, calculating salary adjustments, overtime and shift differentials, keying and reviewing hours, submitting paperwork to Central Payroll Bureau, and adhering to all state regulations as well as college policies and procedures. Processes special payments payroll authorization forms and all associated forms, which includes substantial interface with departmental budget managers and timekeepers. Enters and maintains information in various payroll systems. Maintains confidential personnel files and performs a variety of associated tasks.
This position will require a high level of responsibility, independent judgment and a strong work ethic.
Qualifications include a high school diploma/GED, associate’s degree preferred; seven years responsible experience in payroll, accounting, or secretarial assignments involving advanced records keeping (directly related business school or college courses may be substituted equally for up to one year’s experience); must be organized; proficient with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software on a personal computer; ability to make calculations quickly and accurately; working knowledge of bookkeeping theories and practices; and ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Must have experience working in a fast-paced office environment. Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, will be considered.
