This track allows students to choose a Neuroscience or Psychology Core Course and Neuroscience, Psych, or other general elective courses on a flexible basis. The courses include multiple study tours to different countries as well as the ability to turn Stockholm into your classroom in local labs, workshops, and other experiential learning opportunities. This program also offers a high level of support to students; read here for more details about available resources.

Location

Stockholm, the capital of Sweden (and one of the cleanest capitals in the world), is a beautiful city built on 14 islands on the banks of where Lake Malaren meets the Baltic sea. Stockholm houses two UNESCO heritage sites and its metro is the longest art gallery in the world. It is a unique blend of a well-preserved history and modern, youthful culture. Students are encouraged to go find out why Swedes have the longest life expectancy in Europe!

Academics

DIS Stockholm courses offer the choice of selecting one of the following Core Neuroscience Courses: Cognitive Neuroscience of Addiction, Neuroscience of Emotion, or The Loving Brain: The Neuroscience of Relationships. For the Psychology track, students can choose one of the Neuroscience courses to be cross-listed as Psych, or from the following additional Core Psychology Courses: Forensic Psychology, Developmental Psychopathology, or Positive Psychology. All of these options include a three-day short study tour in Sweden, a two-day seminar in Stockholm, and a week-long study tour to another country, which is all included in the cost.

Once a student has chosen their Core Course, they must select three to four elective courses from this list of courses across many disciplines. Students are welcome to search for courses which have a lab, research, or workshop component. Note: We do require students to take an introduction to Swedish language and culture course.

Housing and Meals

DIS knows that students prefer to choose their type of housing, so there are four student housing options available: homestay, living and learning communities, studentboende, and residential communities. Housing is guaranteed to all participants and students will be given a meal stipend if they are not placed in a homestay. Students will commute to school on the local safe transportation system and are even given transport cards for the Stockholm metropolitan area – all included in the program cost.

Important Links

DIS Sweden: Neuroscience

DIS Sweden: Psychology

Lonely Planet: Stockholm

Transfer Credit Policy

How credits taken abroad will transfer back to SMCM.

<colgroup>
<col width="203" />
<col width="245" /></colgroup>

DIS Sweden

Grading System

Grade

SMCM Grade

A+

A+

A+

A+

A-

A-

B+

B+

B

B

B-

B-

C+

C+

C

C

C-

C-

D+

D+

D

D

F

F

Credit Conversion

One DIS credit equates to one credit at SMCM.
