island of Honshu, facing the Sea of Japan, approximately 280 miles north of Tokyo. \u00a0It is the sixth largest in area, and is easily accessible from Akita International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Akita is well known for its natural beauty and resources, abundant festivals, and sites such as Kakunodate, Tazawako, and the Shirakami Mountain Range, one of the largest virgin forest areas of beech trees in the world. SMCM will adhere to the transfer credit policy when transferring credits from an AIU transcript.<\/p>\n<p>Basic Education\/Global Education<\/p>\n<p>AIU curriculum covers such topics as Japan Studies, Japanese Language, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Math and Natural Sciences, Interdisciplinary Studies, World Languages and Linguistics, and Health and Physical Education. \u00a0This part of the curriculum is intended primarily for students in the first and second years of university. However, some courses, particularly in the area of Japan Studies, may be appropriate for more advanced International Students.<\/p>\n<p>Global Business Program<\/p>\n<p>This area includes the study of economics, finance, management, information, technology, strategy, leadership, entrepreneurship, international business, and other related courses. \u00a0The Global Business Program emphasizes both theory and application, and development of the capacity to think in creative, critical, independent, and global dimensions.<\/p>\n<p>Global Studies Program<\/p>\n<p>The curriculum in this area covers the study of politics, economics, culture, arts and other social studies. The Global Studies Program is divided into 3 tracks: North American Studies, East Asian Studies, and Transnational Studies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-1869-7\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-has-style\" ><div id=\"housing-and-meals\" class=\"panel-row-style panel-row-style-for-1869-7\" ><div id=\"pgc-1869-7-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-1869-7-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_smcm-title panel-first-child\" data-index=\"16\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-smcm-title so-widget-smcm-title-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h2 class=\"smcm-section-title navy\" style=\"\"><strong>Housing<\/strong> and Meals <\/h2><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-1869-7-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-last-child\" data-index=\"17\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>AIU considers housing students from different cultural backgrounds together to be a critical part of the international experience for all students. \u00a0Double occupancy accommodations are guaranteed in either the \u201cGlobal Village\u201d apartments or the residence hall \u201cKomachi Hall.\u201d Each room at Akita will have a bed, bookshelf and desk and a shared bathroom. \u00a0The residence halls also offer a lounge area equipped with Cable TV, sofa, tables, English and Japanese newspapers, vending machines and mail boxes. Typical clubs include: Kendo, Table Tennis, Badminton, Yoga, Japanese Dance, Flower Arrangement, Guitar, Global Vision, Choir, International Cooperation, Broadcasting, Photography, Sign Language and Kanto. \u00a0Circles of Interest include: Ecology and Environment, Japanese Chess, Aikido, Double Dutch, Musicals and Drama, Shorinji Kempo and Boxing.<\/p>\n<p>Off campus, Akita is famous for its many skiing and snowboarding resorts and mineral hot springs. \u00a0Students also have access to the facilities of a multi-sport complex in the Akita Prefecture Central Park.
