Advisors play a key role in assisting SMCM students with their study abroad plans – before, during, and after the experience.\u00a0 In order to aid in this process the IE Office is providing the below resources to assist with advising students in regards to their study abroad opportunities.<\/p>\n
Students who are thinking about and\/or planning on studying abroad will go through a two-phase process: an application phase and a pre-departure phase.\u00a0 We recommend that any student interested in studying abroad first visit the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Programs website <\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to explore the possible program options before discussing them with their Academic Advisor and the IE Office. Students considering short-term programs may also browse the Study Tours<\/a> page, where offerings change on an annual basis.<\/span><\/p>\n It is extremely important that any student thinking about studying abroad talk to their academic advisor about their potential study abroad program.\u00a0 You, as their advisor, can assist them in determining which program or programs best fits their academic needs and assist them in keeping on track with their degree requirements. Here is a\u00a0Overview for Faculty Advising<\/a> with a summary of opportunities and policies.<\/span><\/p>\n Additionally, as an advisor, you may be asked to fill out a recommendation form for your student as a part of the application process.\u00a0 All recommendations are now completed on-line and in order for your to be able to complete the recommendation form the student will need to start an application for their chosen program and request a recommendation through this system.\u00a0 If you have difficulty in accessing the form please contact ie@smcm.edu <\/a><\/span>for assistance. Furthermore, if you would like to advise on the Global Scholars Distinction (NEW 2022) please review the GSD FAQs 2024<\/a>\u00a0and The Global Scholars Distinction Learning Contract <\/a> for more information.<\/span><\/p>\n All program applications are due to the Office of International Education by the following dates.\u00a0 No late applications will be accepted using this system. Scholarship applications are due two weeks before program applications.<\/p>\n *Please note some study tours may have their own deadlines. Please check the individual program to determine the most up-to-date deadline.<\/em><\/p>\n Students request recommendation forms through our application system, Via TRM. You may receive a request from Via TRM and the recommendation will then be visible to our Office staff. Recommendations must be submitted by the appropriate deadline for an application to be considered for approval.
