{"id":25,"date":"2024-03-06T12:20:30","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T12:20:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/ir\/?page_id=25"},"modified":"2025-09-02T13:52:32","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T13:52:32","slug":"data-requests","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/ir\/data-requests\/","title":{"rendered":"Data Requests"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Submitting a Data Request<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To submit a new data request, log in to <a href=\"https:\/\/servicedesk.smcm.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ServiceDesk<\/a> using your SMCM SSO and create a new ticket in the Institutional Research queue.<\/p>\n<p>By requesting data from the Office of Institutional Research &amp; Planning and\/or the Registrar, the requestor agrees to the shared responsibilities outlined below.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Requestor Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of the approved data<\/li>\n<li>Only using the data received for the approved specified project<\/li>\n<li>Providing adequate lead time for the offices to process the request<\/li>\n<li>Providing clear guidance as to the information requested<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Institutional Research &amp; Registrar Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Responding to approved data requests by providing accurate data in a timely manner<\/li>\n<li>Assisting requesting offices in determining appropriate information for their data needs<\/li>\n<li>Providing context, interpretation, explanation, and\/or analysis of data as needed by the requesting office<\/li>\n<li>Restricting further access to data if it has been used for unauthorized purpose, or data integrity or security is found to be not maintained<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>FERPA<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Offices of Institutional Research &amp; Planning and the Registrar are both bound by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974. Additional information regarding FERPA can be obtained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/registrar\/academic-records\/ferpa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the Registrar\u2019s web site<\/a> and contained within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/tothepoint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>To the Point <\/em>Student Handbook<\/a>.
