Is your Blackboard course set up? Here are some ways to make sure that you&#8217;re ready when students return:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Make sure that you can access your Blackboard course<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/support.smcm.edu\/kb\/article\/19-accessing-blackboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">find Blackboard<\/a>\u00a0at blackboard.smcm.edu, or throughout InsideSMCM. \u00a0When you get to\u00a0the login page, use your SMCM username and password to access the system.<\/p>\n<p>A blackboard course is automatically created as soon as a student enrolls in it via the registration page in Portal. \u00a0If you are officially enrolled as the instructor of the course, it should appear under your\u00a0<em><strong>Courses\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>module in the Blackboard dashboard (the screen you see as soon as you log in).<\/p>\n<p>If\u00a0you are a new instructor and can&#8217;t log into Blackboard, please ask your chair and the Registar if you are officially enrolled as the course instructor. \u00a0Blackboard accounts are created as soon as a user has been enrolled in a course&#8211; it could be that you have not been properly enrolled.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Populate your course with content<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now that you&#8217;ve accessed your course, you can start adding things to it. \u00a0If you have already uploaded media\/created content in a previous course, or different section of the same course, you can run a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.smcm.edu\/kb\/article\/55-copying-course-materials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">course copy<\/a>. \u00a0This will move your data from one course into your current course.<\/p>\n<p>If you are coming from another institution and want to upload content from an old course, you&#8217;ll want to run an <a href=\"https:\/\/support.smcm.edu\/kb\/article\/54-exporting-and-archiving-blackboard-9-courses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">export<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/support.smcm.edu\/kb\/article\/58-importing-course-materials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">import<\/a> of your data. \u00a0This will save your course content from another version of Blackboard or institution&#8217;s Blackboard site to your computer, and then allow you to upload it into your course in SMCM&#8217;s Blackboard.<\/p>\n<p>If you are creating brand new content, <a href=\"https:\/\/en-us.help.blackboard.com\/Learn\/Instructor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this should get you started<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allow your students to access your course<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students can&#8217;t access Blackboard courses without instructors making them available. \u00a0To &#8220;turn on&#8221; your course, please check the instructions found <a href=\"https:\/\/support.smcm.edu\/kb\/article\/53-course-availability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you need assistance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you need any assistance with your Blackboard course, please submit a ticket at <a href=\"http:\/\/it.smcm.edu\">it.smcm.edu\/new<\/a>. \u00a0Someone will try to address your issue as soon as possible!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2016 Fall semester is approaching fast!
