About the Program

What’s a Navigator?

St. Mary’s is committed to providing an excellent liberal arts education to talented, high achieving students. This program provides a scholarship of $5,000 – $10,000 to ten financially needy students each year. It’s provided for students who are looking to major in a STEM field, and have a good academic record.

In addition to the financial support, Scholars will:

Join other Navigators on field trips
Be matched with an academic adviser who is a professor in the STEM field
Be given the opportunity to attend enrichment workshops and participate in summer workshop opportunities

St. Mary’s is sure to make sure that students who need financial assistance receive it, and the STEM Navigators Program does just that.

Funding is provided by the National Science Foundation

A Community of Scholars: Who can apply?

Transfer Students

Have 45 or more transferable hours, of which include credits for introductory courses for the intended major
Have a current GPA of 3.0+
Documented financial need
A completed application to the program
Intend on majoring in a STEM field while at SMCM

Scholarship Criteria

Be a full-time student at SMCM
Maintain a 3.0+ GPA in SMCM STEM courses
Maintain a good academic standing in your chosen STEM major
Participate in Navigator events
Participate in the Emerging Scholars Program for your cohort
And continued demonstrated financial need

St. Mary’s College of Maryland reserves the right to provide some or all of the course content through alternative methods of course delivery, including remote methods of delivery, and it reserves the right to change the method of delivery at any time before or during the academic term, in the event of a health or safety emergency or similar situation when it determines, in its sole discretion, that such change is necessary and in the best interests of the College and the campus community.
