Policy. This dual degree program allows highly motivated students to earn both a bachelor\u2019s and a master\u2019s degree in just five years\u2014integrating interdisciplinary graduate coursework with real-world professional experience. SMCM undergraduate students spend their junior year at Bard completing graduate-level classes, return to SMCM to finish their bachelor\u2019s degree in their senior year, and then complete their fifth year at Bard through a full-time internship and capstone project. Cross-disciplinary studies can increase intellectual community across disciplines, encourage cohesion in the choice of electives, and promote combinations of methods and materials that challenge the boundaries of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>They involve at least three academic disciplines and require 18 to 24 credit-hours, at least eight (8) of which must be at the upper-division level.<\/p>\n<p>Cross-disciplinary studies include an integrative component such as a common course or requirement. At the discretion of the specific cross-disciplinary studies committee, students may complete the St. Mary\u2019s Project in the study area, provided they secure the approval of the department in which they are majoring.
